Beginner-Friendly Tutorial: How to Turn Vintage Glass Buttons into Earrings

In this easy DIY recipe, we’ll show you how to make earrings using vintage glass buttons with integrated shanks. These beautiful one-of-a-kind buttons were originally made to be sewn onto garments — now you can transform them into unique jewelry with just a few simple steps!

Note:

This tutorial features beads and parts available at Rm Antiques.
Please be aware that some items may be out of stock due to the limited nature of vintage materials. Thank you for your understanding!

Materials Used:

  • Earring findings

  • Eye pins

  • Brass component (GC-5999)

  • 18mm vintage glass button (VB-3643)

  • 9mm vintage glass bead (VP-3943)

Instructions:

Start by applying a small amount of clear jewelry glue to the center of the brass component (GC-5999), and carefully press the vintage glass button (VB-3643) into place. Let it dry completely before moving on.

This brass part fits buttons around 17–18.5mm in diameter perfectly. It features two holes, but you can snip off one side with wire cutters if you prefer to use it as a charm base instead.

Vintage glass buttons with an integrated shank (loop-style back) work beautifully with donut-shape

Just make the charm and finish it off. It's that simple!
